Reported Speech — Dolaylı Anlatım (-dığını söyledi)
Reported Speech, birinin söylediğini aktarmak için kullanılır. Türkçedeki '-dığını söyledi', '-mış' ve 'dedi ki' yapılarına karşılık gelir. Aktarma fiili geçmiş zamandaysa (said, told) genellikle zaman bir derece geriye kayar: 'I'm tired' → 'She said she was tired.'
Ne zaman kullanılır?
Cümle aktarma (said / told)
He said (that) he was hungry. / He told me he was hungry.
Soru aktarma (asked + if/whether / soru kelimesi)
She asked me if I was ready. / He asked where I lived.
Rica ve emir aktarma (told/asked + someone + to V1)
My boss told me to finish the report.
Hâlâ geçerli bilgiyi aktarırken zaman kaydırmamak
She said she lives in Bursa. (hâlâ orada yaşıyor)

Türklerin sık yaptığı hatalar
✗ She said me that she was tired.
✓ She told me that she was tired. / She said that she was tired.
'Tell' kişi alır (told me), 'say' doğrudan kişi almaz (said to me).
✗ He asked me where did I live.
✓ He asked me where I lived.
Aktarılan soruda soru düzeni bozulur; 'did' kullanılmaz ve özne fiilden önce gelir.
✗ She told me don't worry.
✓ She told me not to worry.
Olumsuz emir aktarılırken 'not to + V1' kullanılır.
✗ He asked me that I was hungry.
✓ He asked me if I was hungry.
Evet/hayır soruları 'if' veya 'whether' ile aktarılır.
Konuşmada nasıl kullanılır?
- Konuşmada 'that' çoğu zaman atılır: 'She said she was coming.'
- Sohbette aktarmanın çok doğal bir yolu: 'He was like, I'm not going!' veya 'She goes, ...' (gençler arasında yaygın, gündelik). Biz yine de 'said/told' ile pratik yapalım.
- Söylenen bilgi hâlâ doğruysa zamanı kaydırmayabilirsiniz: 'He said he loves Turkish food.' Bu konuşmada çok yaygındır.
- Zaman ve yer kelimeleri de değişir: 'tomorrow' → 'the next day', 'here' → 'there', 'this' → 'that'.
Konuşma görevi
Telefon oyunu: biriniz partnerine üç cümle ve bir soru söylesin (ör. 'I'm going to Ankara tomorrow. Can you feed the cat?'). Diğeri bunu 'Reported Speech' ile üçüncü bir kişiye anlatıyormuş gibi aktarsın: 'She said she was going...'. Sonra gün içinde duyduğunuz bir konuşmayı aktarın. Sorular: 'What did your boss or colleague tell you today?', 'What did your mother ask you the last time she called?', 'What's the best advice someone has ever given you? What exactly did they tell you?', 'Did anyone promise you something recently?'
