Past Simple — Geçmiş Zaman (-dı)

Past Simple; geçmişte belli bir zamanda başlayıp bitmiş eylemleri anlatır. Türkçedeki '-dı' (gittim, gördüm) ekinin karşılığıdır. Düzenli fiiller -ed alır, düzensiz fiillerin (go-went, see-saw) ezberlenmesi gerekir.

Ne zaman kullanılır?

  • Geçmişte belli bir zamanda tamamlanmış eylem

    We got married in 2019.

  • Art arda gerçekleşen olaylar (hikâye anlatma)

    I woke up, had a shower and left the house.

  • Geçmişteki bir süre (artık devam etmiyor)

    She lived in Germany for five years.

Türklerin sık yaptığı hatalar

✗ Did you went to the party?

✓ Did you go to the party?

'Did' geçmişi zaten gösterir; ana fiil yalın (V1) kalır.

✗ I didn't saw him.

✓ I didn't see him.

Olumsuzda da 'didn't' + V1 kullanılır.

✗ I have seen him yesterday.

✓ I saw him yesterday.

'Yesterday' gibi belli bir geçmiş zaman varsa Present Perfect değil Past Simple kullanılır.

✗ Before two years I moved here.

✓ I moved here two years ago.

Türkçedeki 'iki yıl önce' yapısı İngilizcede 'two years ago' olur; 'ago' sona gelir.

Konuşmada nasıl kullanılır?

  • Hikâye anlatırken 'then', 'after that', 'in the end' gibi bağlaçlarla akıcılık kazanırsınız.
  • Kısa cevaplar: 'Did you call her?' → 'Yes, I did.' / 'No, I didn't.'
  • Sohbette 'How was your day?' veya 'How was the weekend?' sorularına Past Simple ile cevap verin: 'It was great, we went to the beach.'
  • -ed telaffuzuna dikkat: 'worked' (/t/), 'played' (/d/), 'wanted' (/ɪd/). 'Worked' iki hece değildir!

Her biriniz geçen hafta sonunu ya da unutulmaz bir tatili 2 dakika anlatsın. Dinleyen kişi araya girip Past Simple ile takip soruları sorsun. Sorular: 'What did you do last weekend?', 'Where did you go on your best holiday ever?', 'What was the last film you watched, and did you like it?', 'When did you last try something new?'
